To mark a significant milestone of 25th anniversary, Hong Kong Education City (EdCity) hosted the 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Friday, 17 October 2025 at the Kowloon Shangri-La, bringing together distinguished guests from across sectors to celebrate this momentous silver jubilee.
The evening was graced by esteemed officiating guests including Dr Choi Yuk Lin, JP, Secretary for Education; Mr Armstrong Lee Hon Cheung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EdCity; Dr Jeff Sze Chun Fai, JP, Under Secretary for Education; and Dr Tenny Lam Fung, Executive Director of EdCity. Dr Choi commended contributions of EdCity in her speech, recognizing EdCity as a close partner of the government in supporting the education sector navigate various challenges, embrace the wave of technology, and drive digital transformation in education. She anticipated extended collaboration with EdCity, to pave the way hand in hand for a new chapter of local education.
Mr Lee expressed heartfelt gratitude to former officials and education professionals for their outstanding contributions to EdCity. Prominent figures were invited to commemorate the occasion, including former Chairpersons of the Board of Directors of EdCity, Ms Fanny Law Fan Chiu Fun, GBM, GBS, JP, and Mr Wilfred Wong Kam Pui, BBS, JP; former Secretaries for Education, Mr Eddie Ng Hak Kim, GBS, SBS, JP, and Mr Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, GBS, JP; as well as four former Executive Directors of EdCity, Mr Ma Siu Leung, BBS, MH; Professor Wong Po Choi, MH; Mr Victor Cheng and Mr Ken Ngai Yuen Keung. Numerous Legislative Council Members have also attended the banquet to show support for EdCity, including Professor Priscilla Leung Mei Fun, GBS, JP; Mr Lawrence Tang Fei, MH; and Mr Dennis Leung Tsz Wing, MH. EdCity also took this opportunity to honourably invite several long-serving staff members—each with over two decades of service—to share in the celebration, extending sincere appreciation for their years of dedication and selfless contributions.
EdCity has long been committed to empowering students to unleash their creativity, harness technology to enhance learning, and equip themselves for the future. This vision came to life when two students from CUHK FAA Thomas Cheung School guided a cutting-edge robot and a charming robot dog to warmly welcome our guests, infusing the venue with a futuristic atmosphere. At the gala dinner, a captivating performance was presented by a student team from the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), a member institution under the Vocational Training Council (VTC), featuring the AI-generated virtual singer ‘Vi’ alongside tertiary-level dance representatives. Together, they delivered an original song Be Vi, symbolising the boundless possibilities of integrating technology and education and offering guests a refreshing glimpse into the performance created by the new generation.
